C. Darrel Mecham – a longtime Pendleton resident died Monday, August 20, 2012, at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, Washington. He was 71 years old. Viewing will be held Thursday, August 23rd, between noon and 5:00 P.M. at Burns Mortuary in Pendleton. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, August 24, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. and will be in the Burns Mortuary Chapel, Pendleton, Oregon. Interment will follow at Skyview Memorial Park in Pendleton. Darrel was born April 12, 1941, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, to Christopher Delbert and Navo Jean Kirkpatrick Mecham. He attended grade school in Mitchell, Oregon. The family then moved to Pendleton, where he attended Junior High and High School. When he was 18 years old he enlisted into the United States Army. He served his country and received an Honorable Discharge in 1961. He returned to Pendleton in 1970 when he began working as a lineman for Pendleton Cable Company, where he worked for sixteen years. He then worked primarily as a ranch hand for many area ranchers. Darrel dedicated countless hours of his time as a volunteer for the Pendleton Round-Up for 41 years. He enjoyed the Rodeo and Professional Bull Riding. He loved to ride horses. Darrel's hobbies included camping, fishing and hunting, and he loved baseball. Darrel could tell you anything about the Seattle Mariners. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 28 of Pendleton. Darrel never met a stranger. He was a man that would go out of his way to help anybody in need. He is survived by Marlene Knight of Pendleton, OR, his sons: Richard Mecham of Adams, OR, Robbie Mecham of Newberg, OR, Jim Mecham of Newberg, OR, Kenny Mecham of Newberg, OR, and Steven Knight of Pendleton, OR, daughters: Sheila Edmundson of Hermiston, OR, Shelly Spencer of Pendleton, OR, and Sherri Falkner of Vancouver, WA, a brother Dean Mecham of Sitka, AK, a sister Debra Johnson of Pendleton, OR, sixteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, his many good friends and his faithful border collie Panda. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gary Mecham.
