She had two brothers- Howard and Ralph. As a young girl, Marion was known affectionately as "Topsy". She was raised in Nooksack, graduating from Sumas-Nooksack High School in 1936. She received a Teaching Certificate from Western Washington College of Education in Bellingham, Washington, in 1941. Marion married Joseph W. Nunamaker on November 7, 1943, at Seattle, Washington. In 1948 they moved to Pendleton, Oregon, where they raised their children– Richard, Carol and Tom. For a period of time Marion's nephew and niece- Eddie and Judy Bollerud, also lived with them. A devoted housewife and mother, Marion also held a variety of jobs. In the 1960's when Joe managed Pendleton Bowling Lanes, she operated the snack bar there. She was an aid and Certified Nursing Assistant at St. Anthony Hospital and Eastern Oregon State Hospital for about 12 years, retiring from EOSH in 1980. After retirement she helped her husband with work that he did, sometimes climbing the roofs of buildings, helping Joe with repairs. Marion enjoyed traveling and being with family. While raising their family, she & Joe's vacations included trips to the Bellingham area to visit their extended families. Later they often took road trips, camping along the way to their various destinations. Marion was one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She was an avid Bible reader and devoted much time to activities related to her faith. Her greatest joy came from sharing Bible truths with others. She cherished the many friends she made in her congregation and community, to whom she was known for her caring and compassion. Recently, Marion broke her hip and suffered from Parkinson's disease. Nevertheless, she was known and loved for her sweet, positive outlook. She appreciated her friends, family, and those in the healthcare field who lovingly cared for her in her final years. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, husband Joe and son Tom. She is survived by: her son Richard & wife Norma Nunamaker of Boardman, OR, daughter Carol & husband Bob Johnson of Pendleton, OR, daughter-in-law Renee Nunamaker of Pullman, WA, her grandchildren: Melissa & husband Alex Cisneros, Jonathan & wife Lea Nunamaker, Janelle Johnson, Jolynn & husband Jerry Shaw, Jeff & wife Megan Nunamaker and Matthew & wife Robin Nunamaker, and her great-grandchildren: Jared, Michael and Seth Nunamaker, Jerry, Caleb, Riley and Taylor Shaw.
