Michael John Wheeler – a resident of Pendleton passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton. He was 66 years old. At his request no services will be held. He was the son of Hugh R. and Eva Louise Brearley Wheeler. He was raised in Tucson, Arizona, where he attended schools. He graduated from Rincon High School in Tucson, with the class of 1965. In 1966 he enlisted into the United States Navy. He served his country during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1971. He then attended Tucson Business College in Arizona, where he received his Drafting Technology Diploma in 1978. Michael moved to Pendleton, Oregon, in 1991 to be near his sister and her family. He continued his education at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, where he received a Computer Aided Drafting Certificate in 1992. He was employed by Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution in Pendleton as a Security Correctional Officer from 1994 until he retired in 2002. He then began driving the shuttle bus for Wildhorse Resort & Casino in Pendleton, which he continued to do until 2011. Michael was an avid reader of western books and had always been a collector of baseball cards. He enjoyed traveling, which he did frequently. He loved to spend time with his beloved nieces and nephews. He always kept the motto "Let your conscience be your guide in life". Michael Wheeler is survived by his sister Patricia A. Baird of Pendleton, OR, nieces: Cathy Case & husband Russell of Hermiston, OR, Patty Sager & husband Randy of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Susan Brock & husband Jim of Alabama, nephews; David Baird & wife Shirley of Pendleton, OR, Marvin Baird, Jr. & wife Cammie of Spokane, WA, Marty Wheeler of Washington, Chris Wheeler of California and Wayne Wheeler of Tucson, AZ, and two sisters-in-law Katherine Wheeler of Columbus, OH, and Doris Wheeler of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Eva Wheeler, and his brothers Richard H. and Robert N. Wheeler.

Mike and I were classmates at Rincon HS. Sorry to hear of his death. I did not even know we were, more or less, neighbors until I read his obit in the paper. I have lived in Walla Walla for 34 years. Condolences!

My Uncle Mike will be missed by his extended family. He was always very generous with his time and attention to his many neices and nephews. We will all hold lots of have great memories of our Uncle Mike!

Mike was a lot of fun to talk to - had a great sense of humor. He will be dearly missed at Wildhorse! Our condolences to the family from Larry Blue.
