Daniel I. "Dan" Martindale, Sr. - a resident of Pendleton passed from this life, to a life with the Lord on Sunday, December 5, 2010 at a Hermiston care facility. He was 89 years old. Graveside inurnment services are planned for Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the Olney Cemetery, Pendleton, Oregon. Sign the online guestbook or send condolences at www.burnsmortuary.com Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Martindale Sr. was born May 3, 1921 in Gering, Nebraska. He was the son of Ora and Clara M. Gering Martindale. After his schooling, he served his country in the United States Coast Guard during World War II, in Ketchikan, Alaska. He married Emogene L. Sandford on September 8, 1945 in Oregon. The couple moved to Nebraska in 1947, and lived there until 1957. They then moved to Vancouver, Washington and lived there until 1963. Mr. Martindale lost his sight in 1959, and in 1963, the Commission For the Blind offered him a job managing the cafeteria at the Oregon State Office building in Pendleton, Oregon. He and his family moved to Pendleton that year, and he continued to work at the State Office Building until his retirement in 1977. He had been a member of the Church Of Christ since 1952 and had attended churches in Nebraska, Washington and Oregon. He is survived by his wife, Emogene of Pendleton, his son, Daniel I. Martindale Jr. and his wife, Kathy of Hermiston; a daughter, Judy Moll of Vancouver, Washington, eleven living grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Velva R. Denton of Pendleton, a daughter-in-law Sandra Sanford of Vancouver, Washington, a brother, Glen and wife, Thelma of LaSalle, Colorado, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Richard J. Sanford, Jr., a granddaughter, Dawn Marie Martindale, two sisters, and three brothers.

Although many years have passed since I last saw Dan, he has been remembered fondly over time. It was my honor to care for his guide dog one time, like a family member. Dan was funny and had a tremendous sense of humor. I still laugh over our fishing trip on the Columbia River. He helped fill my life.

Dear Eomgene, I'm truly sorry to hear about Dan. I will miss him dearly and will remember him often. He is now at rest and God bless him.
