Ruth "Nicteas" Tias - a Pendleton resident died on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at her home in Pendleton following a 6 year battle with cancer. She was 72 years old. A Dressing Ceremony will be held on Friday, November 5, 2010 at 2:00 PM, at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Pendleton. A Washat service will be conducted Friday, November 5, 2010 at 7:00 PM at the Agency Longhouse in Mission, Oregon. Burial will be held Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 8:30 AM in the Agency Cemetery, Mission, Oregon. Sign the online guestbook and send condolences at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements. Ruth was born on November 23, 1937 in Pendleton, to Cecelia Stevens and Elmer Johnson. She was an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. She was born here in Oregon and never left. Ruth was raised in Pendleton, where she attended St. Joseph Academy and St. Andrew's School, and graduated from John Murray High School. On July 15, 1971 she married Wes Tias in the Umatilla County Courthouse. Wes preceded her in death in 2006, after 35 years of marriage. During her career, Ruth had worked for the TERO Commission, the Water Committee and the Board of Trustees. She had acted as the Director for the Tribal Employment Rights Office, or TERO, and was an officer of the General Council and the Health Committee. Ruth had attended St. Andrew's Catholic Church and the Tutuilla Presbyterian Church. She loved to spend time with her family and many friends. Her hobbies included sewing and beading as well as puzzle books. She enjoyed watching football games, playing Bingo and gambling. She is survived by her sons: David Thompson, Sr., Darryl Thompson, Bill Brown, Michael Johnson, Cecil Tias, Chet Tias, Bear Tias and Vernon Tias, daughters: Shawna Shillal Gavin, Jolie Wendt, Patty Thompson, Michelle "Barnsie" Thompson, Pam Thompson, Harvianne Tias, Mariam Tias and Martha Tias, 26 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by: her husband Wes Tias, sons Lonnie Miller and Bill Shillal, daughter Victoria Shillal, grandson Cecil Tias, Jr., sisters: Jeanie Danzuka, Philomena Halfmoon and Lillian VanPelt, brothers Rupert Halfmoon and Daniel Johnson, her mother Cecilia Stevens and her father Elmer Johnson.

...Sending sincere and warm prayers to the families of Ruth Tias. She always had an awesome smile on her face and her laugh is very contagious!! She will be missed dearly, but never forgotten. I regret not being able to attend her services, but wanted to be there. To the families, relatives and friends we have to be strong for her. Love you! Monika
