She was the second of three girls born to Jim and Cecelia Kollman of Ukiah, Oregon. Joy grew up in Ukiah and attended all twelve years at Ukiah High School graduating in 1963. After attending BMCC and acquiring her nursing aide certificate she worked for several years at Pendleton Community Hospital, first as a nursing aide, then as the ward clerk. In the mid 70's she moved to Astoria, OR, working in the hospital there again as a ward clerk. When economic hardship settled in, the hospital closed a wing laying several people off, including Joy. Upon returning to Pendleton, Joy worked at a Day Care where she was in her ultimate element. Babies and small children were the love of her life. Having never married, Joy was the dear Aunt Jo who daily took care for her great nieces, and after they entered school she was the caregiver for the Smith children; Cain, Dally Sue, and her little Buddy, Calgary. Aunt Jo was the one who always was there for all of her nieces and nephews. In between child care, Joy worked in the cafeteria at Kmart, with her last job being in the deli at Wal-Mart. Joy had many dear friends, including school mate Virginia, and co-workers; Connie, Ronnie, and Tanna. Survivors include her mother Cecelia Kollman of Pendleton, sisters; Carole Picard of Ukiah, and Karen Phegley of Pilot Rock. Also surviving her are nephews; Patrick Picard, wife Stephanie and family, Brian Kollman, wife Amy and three children, nieces Heather Garrett, husband Duane and three girls, and one great niece; and Hilary Myers, husband Dale and three children.

Was just checking the EO online this morning and was saddend to see the notice for Joy. I'm so sorry that she suffered so much. I had recently been pulling out our old Ukiah school pictures and remembering how much fun we all had back then. My condolences to all the family.

Joy put your hand upon your heart, for God is there with you in your hours of need giving you comfort and love. Letting you know that your life is now shinning very bright because now you are in the arms of Jesus and your Angel who has a tear in her eye as you go to heaven with the both of them. And when you get there know that your loved ones who passed before you are awaiting you with their arms held wide open to surround you with love. your friend Lisa
