Raymond "Ray" S. Meengs, a resident of Ukiah, and former resident of The Dalles, Oregon, died Monday, March 15, 2010, in his Ukiah Home, in the same house where he was born. He was 74 years old. A memorial will be held at a later date. Box 489, Pendleton, Oregon 97801. Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Meengs was born September 27, 1935 in Ukiah, Oregon. He was the son of Raymond H. and Lulu I. Caverhill Meengs. He was raised and educated in Ukiah and graduated from Ukiah High School in 1953. After high school he moved to Klamath Falls and attended Oregon Institute of Technology and graduated from OIT in 1956. He married Donna M. Pfefferle on June 9, 1957 in Klamath Falls, Oregon. The couple then moved to Monument, Oregon where he worked as a surveyor before they moved to The Dalles, Oregon where Mr. Meengs worked for the next 35 yeas in electronics and communications for Wheeler Communications in The Dalles. He retired in 1990. For many years Ray served as a volunteer for The Dalles Fire Department. In 2000 he returned to the Ukiah family home, were he was raised, and remained there until his death. He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gold mining and almost anything outdoors. He also enjoyed working on and operating ham radios as well as spending time with his family. He had been a member of The Dalles, Eagles lodge, #2126. He is survived by his wife, Donna of Ukiah and The Dalles, two children, Raymond "Allen" Meengs of Dufer, Oregon, and daughter Vicki Kaye Bennett of The Dalles, Oregon, and brother, Donald M. Meengs of Pendleton, Oregon. Five grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Gayle Holland and an infant brother.

Dear Donna: I was so sorry to read about Ray. We all know that Ray is in a great place now free of pain, once again united with his loved ones that preceeded him to the promised land. It is for you and the rest of the family that my proayers go out to, directed at taking away your pain as quick as possible leaving only those wonderful memories your family shared together.
