Carroll E. Karnes, a resident of Pendleton, died Thursday, November 26, 2009 in a Walla Walla, Washington hospital. He was 82 years old. No services are planned at this time. Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Karnes was born July 17, 1927 in Studley, Kansas. He was the son of Doris E. and Ruby Hardman Karnes. He was raised and educated and worked the family farm in the Hoxie, Kansas area. After his schooling he entered the United Sates Army Air Force and served his country in Japan during WWII. After his honorable discharge he returned to the States. He married Marcile Robinson in 1950 in Washington. In 1952 the family came to Oregon where Mr. Karnes worked at various jobs including sales and road construction. He had operated heavy equipment and had helped to build Interstate 84. After he was injured in an accident he changed professions and started Karnes Refrigeration, which he owned and operated in our area for a time. He later moved to Las Vegas, NV, where he worked before he returned to Pendleton. He greatly enjoyed his work and will be remembered as a people person who enjoyed meeting and visiting with everyone. He is survived by two children; daughter Juanita Karnes of Pendleton, and son James Karnes of Los Angeles, CA, one brother, Duke Karnes of Payola, KS; two sisters, Maxine Patman of Kansas and Shirley Alder of Flagler, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marcile Karnes and one sister, Evelyn Donscheski.
