Chester Alonzo Doss

December 26, 1933 – October 9, 2016

Chester “Chet” Alonso Doss, was born December 26, 1933, in La Grande, Oregon.  His parents were Chester and Stella Doss.  He died on October 9, 2016, in a care facility in Hermiston, Oregon.  He was a resident of Pilot Rock, Oregon, since 2000.  Chester enjoyed cooking, skydiving, camping, boating, fishing and hunting.  Chet served as a Private in the Army during the Korean War in the 82nd Airborne from 1950-1953.  He worked 32 years for GM in shipping/receiving.

Chet married his first wife Darlene Pierce Callopy of Portland, Oregon, in 1956.  He was a stepfather to her children Kathleen Kraemer of Boring, Oregon; and Cliff Callopy of Portland, Oregon; he was preceded in death by Dennis Callopy (1954-1968), and David Callopy (1955-1968).

Chet married Margery Johnson on December 31, 1964.

Chet is survived by his wife Margery Doss of Pilot Rock, OR; stepdaughter Shirley & Rick Collins of Kingman, AZ; stepdaughter Sandy Jackson of Tigard, OR; stepdaughter Susan & Bob Huston of Seaside, OR; stepson Brian & Diane Franke-Lowery of Lincoln Beach, OR; stepson Dave & Rachel Franke of Pilot Rock, OR; and daughter Stephanie Doss of Pilot Rock, OR; grandchildren Ashley Madewell, Matthew Madewell, Paul Sanchez, Jose Sanchez, and Denise Sanchez, all of Pilot Rock, OR; and one great-grandson Peyton Paslay of Pendleton, OR; as well as numerous step-grandchildren and step-greatgrandchildren from both marriages.

He was preceded in death by his father Chester Arthur Doss (1912-1982) and his mother Stella May Winterton Doss Taylor (1915-1963); his son Steven Doss (1965-2003); his brother Ronald Doss (1936-2010); his uncle was Lloyd Thomas Doss (1920-2011) best known by his stage name “Tommy Doss”, a member of The Sons of the Pioneers; his brother Dennis Doss (1944-2012); and sister Darlene Vander Meer (1948-2012).

A Military Graveside Service will be held Saturday, October 22, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Skyview Memorial Park (between Pendleton and Pilot Rock).  Family and friends are encouraged to attend.  Sign the online condolence book at  Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements.
