Cody Purl Bowman

March 12, 1976 - December 25, 2015

Cody Purl Bowman was born on March 12, 1976, to Robert Purl Bowman and Roberta Larose Picker in Hermiston, Oregon. Cody was raised in Fairbanks, Alaska, but spent his summers in Pendleton.

After leaving school he married for a brief time, having a son Cedric Purl Bowman in 1997. Cody then relocated to Pendleton staying with lifetime friend Terri Zodrow. He then met and fell in love with Mary Jean Carlon and embraced four-year old Tori as his daughter. The young family then welcomed a son, Lynn Purl Bowman, on October 5, 2000, followed by another son, Robert (Robby) Purl Bowman, on May 18, 2004.

Cody worked for Fleetwood Enterprises from 1999 until their closing in 2009. He then went back to school, studying business. In 2014 he became employed with Grocery Outlet where he and his wife served as managers. The Grocery Outlet was more than a job to Cody; it was, rather, an extension of his family. He embraced every work day as another day to spend with family.

Cody had a love for Alaska and had hoped to return there some day. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, video gaming and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed family gatherings where he loved making people laugh. He is known by his kids as “smart.” When helping with homework, if he didn’t know the answer, he would find it — teaching his kids more than the homework assignment, but also the desire to learn and to go the extra mile to do so.

He is survived by his wife Mary of 15 years and children Cedric of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Tori Bowman, Lynn Bowman and Robby Bowman, all of Pendleton. He also leaves behind his mother, Roberta Picker of Irrigon; sister Dana Dilley of Lexington, Oklahoma; brother Dillon Dilly of Umatilla; and special friend and cousin PJ Waite of Pendleton. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert, and his grandparents.

He will be loved by his family.

A celebration of life gathering will be held Thursday, Dec. 31 from 7-9 p.m. at the Pendleton Elks Lodge, 14 SE 3rd Street, Pendleton.
