When he was a small child, his family moved to Cohasset, Minnesota, where he was raised and attended schools. It was in Blackberry, MN, that he met the love of his life, Virgie Grace Steiner. The two were married in the church where they first met on May 28, 1950. The couple then moved to Anoka, MN, and then to Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1959. It was in Lincoln that they made their home and raised their two children. Bob had worked at several different jobs while in Minnesota, but in Nebraska he began working for the Harris Pine Mills as a forklift operator, and truck driver. As Harris Pine Mills began to close factories, Bob was sent to work at the main location of the business. So, in April of 1984, he moved from the Midwest to Pendleton, Oregon. Bob had worked for the Harris Pine Mills for over twenty years. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed woodworking. He was creative, and could put together wonderful furnishings and decorations from scraps from the mill, odd hardware and the like. He also enjoyed collecting coins, as well as rock hounding, and challenging himself with different types of puzzles. Bob had been a member of the Pendleton Seventh-day Adventist Church. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virgie Forbes, of Hermiston, OR, son Robert M. Geraldine Forbes, of Lehr, ND, daughter Carlotta David Yauney of Pendleton, OR, a sister, Blanche Bitzer of Brainerd, MN, 3 grandchildren: Heather Cory Johnson, Annie Forbes and Matthew Ashley Forbes, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Shirley Iverson.
