Benjamin Edward Hamlin - a resident of Pendleton, died on Friday evening, September 2, 2011, at St. Anthony Hospital. He was 86 years old. Funeral Services will be held at Burns Mortuary on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow the funeral service, and will be held at Summerville Cemetery in Summerville, Oregon. Benjamin was born on June13, 1925, in Dover, Idaho, to Frieda Tessie and Arthur Henry Hamlin. He was the brother to: two brothers, Gene and James Hamlin, and two sisters, Bernice and Betty Hamlin. The Hamlin family moved to Hines, Oregon, where they lived on a small farm. Ben joined the U.S. Navy, where he served his country during WWII, and was Honorably Discharged from active duty. Following his service, Ben and his father Arthur built a Stud Mill behind the general store in Gibbon, Oregon. He then moved to Craigmont, Idaho, where Ben and his father-in-law owned a Sawmill. Ben then moved back to Pendleton, Oregon, where he worked first for Harris Pine Mills, and then for Georgia Pacific now Louisiana Pacific in Pilot Rock, where he retired. Ben was a humble man who loved life and to help others as much as he could. Ben loved to hunt and fish. He often would take his family to the mountains, where they would have picnics, where both families could meet and visit. He also enjoyed participating in sports. He especially loved to bowl. Ben married the late Theda Barbara Clemens. He is survived by his son and daughter, Linda Seecarry and Gary Hamlin, five grandchildren; Theda and Joan Hamlin, Brian and Tiffany Vaile, and one great grand daughter, Hanna Vaile.
