John M. Carr, a resident of Pendleton, died Sunday, October 17, 2010 in a local care facility. He was 87 years old. Memorial Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, November 6th. 2010 at 3:00 P.M. in the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 241 SE Second St., Pendleton, Oregon. Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Carr was born November 27, 1921 in Portland, Oregon. He was the son of Charlie and Clara Foss Carr. He was raised and educated in Portland and graduated from Parkrose High School. He then attended the University Of Oregon and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Business. He had served his country during WWII in the United States Navy onboard a destroyer escort where he was a gunnery Officer. He married Elizabeth Huckins in 1949 in Portland. She preceded him in death in 1971. He married Gwen Weiss in 1977 in Walla Walla and she preceded him in death in 2006. He had worked as a manufacturer's representative for International Harvester as well as other farm equipment companies. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family as well as sports, golf and gardening. He had been a member of the B.P.O.E. "Elks Lodge" He is survived by children Mary Carr of Portland, Or.; Kathy Knopp and her spouse Walter of Sun City, Arizona; Beverly Cary and spouse Steve of Pendleton; David Weiss and spouse Kaye of Portland, Oregon; and Carrie Graham and spouse Brad of Waitsburg, Washington. One sister, Carlene Fretland of Highland Parkland, Illinois; five grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren also survive. Along with his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, one son and two sisters.
