Alan Lee 'Gramps' Endicott Sept. 6, 1939-Sept. 3, 2010 RICHLAND, Wash. — Alan Lee "Gramps" Endicott, 70, of Pendleton died peacefully Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, Wash., from cancer. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Pendleton Eagles Lodge. Mr. Endicott was born Sept. 6, 1939, in Caldwell, Idaho, to Charles and Alfreda Endicott. He graduated from Huntington High School in 1957, where he was a 4-year letterman in three sports. He met the love of his life, Nancy, at a dance in Durkee, and they married in 1957. He served three years in the Navy before the family settled in Baker. He worked as an engineer assistant for the Forest Service, and retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in Pendleton after 25 years as an engineer. After taking time off to pursue his dream of gold mining, he started a new career in car sales at Carner Auto and Pendleton Ford. His love for gardening led him to Pendleton Academies, and later Pendleton Police Department, as gardener. He also coached in Baker and later for Pendleton High School JV girls softball. In recent years he and Nancy helped shape the lives of 31 foster kids with special needs. Mr. Endicott is survived by his wife Nancy of Pendleton; brother Erin of Cove; sons Alan of Pendleton, Tim of Baker City and Doug of Hermiston; and five grandchildren. Send donations to PHS girls' ASA softball in memory of "Coach Grandpa."
