Music by The Piano Brothers

Susana Arroyo, 28, of Pendleton passed away on 10/13/2017 surrounded by her loving family.

Susie was born on August 10, 1989 to Mario and Maria (Quezada) Arroyo in Pendleton, Oregon.

She leaves behind a legacy of positivity, determination, and an overall zest for life.  Never taking “no” for an answer began at a very young age for Susie.  Her diagnosis with Muscular Dystrophy at 5 years old didn’t stop her from attending Harry Jr. Academy graduating in 2008, then BMCC and eventually receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Multidisciplinary Studies form Eastern Oregon University in 2016.

You would always see a bright-eyed smile on Susie’s face, she enjoyed playing the piano, listening to music and cheering on her Seattle Seahawks.  A for sure highlight was any time she was able to spend with children especially her nephews.  She was passionate about staying positive about her condition and was always researching cures and trials – even making a trip to Washington DC to speak on it.  She was a constant advocate and inspiration and stayed highly involved in the local community along with National platforms.  Served as a Mentor to young children and teens, Secretary for Clearview Mediation and Disability Resource Center, PPMD’s Adult Advisory Committee, and an active member the 7th Day Adventist Church. An EO article published in August about her battle to try out new medications is a testament of her dedication to progress for herself and others suffering.

She is preceded in death by her Grandmother; Zenaida Arroyo.  She is survived by her parents, grandparents; Mateo and Amelia Quezada and Nazario Arroyo, brother; Mario Jr. (Steffane) Arroyo, nephews; Maddux and Maverick Arroyo, multiple aunts and uncles, cousins and many ‘adopted’ nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 2-6 at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton.  (Other Service arrangements once they are established)

I am so sorry for the passing of your daughter. I feel very privileged to have known her and being able to assist her in being able to get the medication that she fought so hard for. She was an extremely strong person and would not take no for an answer. I enjoyed being able to talk to her and getting to know her and the wonderful person that she was. She always made me laugh and was always very positive. I will miss her and the light that she shined on all of us
