Katherine E. “Katie” Risley

June 1, 1940 – June 14, 2016

Katherine E. “Katie” Risley – a resident of Pendleton passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at Ashley Manor in Pendleton.  She was 76 years old.  No service will be held.  Sign the online condolence book at www.burnsmortuary.com.  Burns Mortuary of Pendleton handled arrangements.

She was born June 1, 1940, in Pasadena, California, to William Lawrence and Ethel Marie (Nickols) Powers, the youngest of four girls.  She was raised in California until the family moved to Pendleton, Oregon.  She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.  September 7, 1958, Katie married Forrest L. Baker in Pendleton, where they lived for thirty years, raising their four children.  They later divorced.  January 27, 1990, she married Earl Risley in Lacey, Washington.  They lived in Bovill, Idaho, for almost fifteen years before returning to the Pendleton area.  Her hobbies included gardening, both water and oil painting, and singing in church.  She loved to travel (the beach was her favorite), go to the Pendleton Round-Up and watch old movies.  She loved animals and bird watching.  Katie had Alzheimer’s for sixteen years, but was still in good spirits and enjoyed visits with her family.  Her outlook on life was acceptance and tolerance of anyone as long as what they were doing wasn’t hurting others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Margaret “Peggy” Baker, husband Earl Risley and ex-husband Forrest L. Baker.

She is survived by: her sisters Francie Richards of Santa Fe, NM, and Carol Krieske of Sumpter, OR; her children: Katherine Louise Baker Blair & husband Robert J. of Pendleton, OR; Machelle Marie Baker Colligan & husband Denis of Walla Walla, WA; Diana Lynn Baker Hall & husband Sterling of Hermiston, OR; Forrest Ray Baker & wife Kristi Wellington-Baker of Walla Walla, WA; grandchildren: Benjamin Joseph Blair & wife Casidy of Hermiston, OR; Kyle Alexander Blair of Pendleton, OR; Jason Allen Carter & wife Jocelyn Shinae of Vancouver, WA; Andy Allen Hall & girlfriend Frannie Fallon of Hermiston, OR; Daniel James Hall & wife Danielle of Medford, OR; Sterling Dean Hall of Hermiston, OR; Garrett Hunter Hall of Hermiston, OR; Annelyse Katrina Baker of Walla Walla, WA; Anthony W. It was truly a pleasure knowing Katie and being a part of her care team while I was at Ashley Manor. Thank you for sharing her with us. I will never forget how much she loved to sing and what a genuinely happy person she was. She was always there to greet everyone with a smile. She had a great sense of humor that never failed to make me laugh and she would always be a champion for others when their voice could not be heard. Please know that she was loved by many and even with her Alzheimer's, she impacted many lives. God bless you and keep you through this time of mourning.

When we moved to Pendleton in June of 1968 Katie was just 28. It doesn't seem that long ago. We were neighbors just around the corner and Katie used to walk to our place to visit. She also baby sat our first baby. It was fun watching you kids grow up. The time went too fast. We are so sorry for your loss and you are in our prayers.
