MARJORIE LORAINE ROGERS

March 31, 1921 – March 6, 2016

Marjorie L. Rogers, 94, went to Heaven on March 6, 2016, at CHI St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton.  A Memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday March 12th at the Pendleton Free Methodist Church, 1711 S.W. 44th Street.  A family graveside service at Olney Cemetery will be held prior to the memorial service. Sign the online condolence book at www.burnsmortuary.com.  Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is handling arrangements.

Marjorie was born on March 31, 1921, the 8th child of Oliver and Maggie Fleshman in La Grande.  She attended school in a one room schoolhouse.  Then she went to the big school in town.  She graduated from La Grande High School.

At the age of 18, Marjorie met the love of her life, William Rodney Rogers from Hermiston, at Cove Church Camp.  They dated for three years.  When horseback riding he said “let’s get hitched as those old nags are.”  They got married on August 16, 1942 in La Grande.

Marjorie and Rodney had three children, “the three R’s”: Rodney II, Renee and Richard.  They lived in Pilot Rock and Pendleton.  They were married for 62 ½ years.

Marjorie worked as a telephone operator, at the Sherwood School and as a homemaker.  She was a wonderful cook, good mother and good teacher.  She enjoyed gardening.  She loved her family and was very much loved by her family.

As a member of the Pendleton Free Methodist Church she enjoyed her church family, especially the Thursday ladies bible study group.

Marjorie’s parting words were “thumbs UP to Jesus.  I’m going to Heaven.”

Marjorie outlived all of her brothers and sisters.  She is survived by Rodney II and Toni Rogers of Pendleton, Renee and Pete Banning of Greenville, N.C., and Richard and Cristy Rogers of Pendleton, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

So many fond memories of Marge come to mind. Her big smile, caring heart, helpful hand and strength. Our families spent many hours together as we were growing up. Marge's help with dance costumes is just one of so many wonderful memories. She helped turn a mess for a young girl into a triumph. Her smile was infectious. Changing a backyard into a sanctuary was one of her many gifts to us. Marge's faith gave those around her strength to continue. Rod, Renee, and Rick, may peace be with you. Marge I know you are in a better place.

Aunt Marjorie was such a wonderful person. I remember her and her family attending many holidays spent in La Grande. I am so glad that last summer we made a special detour in our trip to visit her. Rita and I had been to visit her there in Pendleton the last few years.

She finally got what she had been wanting and that is going home and being with Jesus. Yes she loved him so much. I know that her and Uncle Rodney would take turns reading the Bible every year. It is wonderful when you have such wonderful memories of a person.

She will be missed which goes unsaid. We all will miss her and cherish our fond memories of her and her love of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

I am not saying goodbye but wishing Aunty Marge a pleasant journey into eternal life.
