James Walter Enbysk
August 27, 1929 – July 22, 2015

 

James Walter Enbysk – a resident of Pendleton died July 22, 2015, at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon.  He was 85 years old.
At his request, no services will be held.  Disposition was by cremation.  Contributions in memory of James Enbysk may be made to: the Umatilla County Historical Society or the Umatilla County Library, either directly or in care of Burns Mortuary of Pendleton, PO Box 489, Pendleton.  Burns Mortuary of Pendleton handled arrangements. 
James was born August 27, 1929, in Pendleton, Oregon, to Walter & Mildred Hoover-Enbysk.  He attended Rieth Grade School, Pendleton Junior High & Pendleton High School, graduating in 1947.  He then worked for the State of Oregon, first as Administrative Assistant for the Oregon National Guard, and then as Maintenance Supervisor where he worked for 33 years, retiring in January of 1988.  In 1948 Mr. Enbysk enlisted in the Oregon Army National Guard.  He retired from the National Guard in July of 1981, as a Lieutenant Colonel with 33 years of service, and was transferred to the Retired Reserve.  
He married Alta Mae Dyer of Milton-Freewater, Oregon, on July 20, 1958.  They had two children, Brent W. Enbysk and K’Lynn (Enbysk) Hackley.  Mr. Enbysk resided in Pendleton during his careers, which required him to travel often.  After his retirement he enjoyed many hobbies including hunting and fishing, especially steelhead fishing on the John Day & Deschutes Rivers.  He tied many of his flies and made many spinners.  He loved to take his granddaughters fishing.  He enjoyed having a garden each year, as well as hunting mushrooms in the spring, and cutting wood in the summertime.  In the winter he enjoyed Bowling, Dancing and playing cards.  
He was a member of the Umatilla County Historical Society.  He loved researching his family genealogy, and had several articles published in the Historical Society’s publication Pioneer Trails.  He was a member of the Greasewood Finnish Heritage Society and a Life Member of the National Guard Association of the USA, and Life Member of BPOE #288, Pendleton. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Enbysk and Mildred Hoover-Enbysk-Wright, his brother Gary W. Enbysk, and sister Irene A. Meredith.  
He is survived by his wife Alta of Pendleton, son Brent W. Enbysk (Darla) of Clackamas, OR, daughter K’Lynn Hackley (Thomas) of Buckner, MO, six grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
