Betty Kruse was born on October 7, 1930 to Hattie and Jake Bowman in Echo, Oregon.  She was the last born of their 9 children.  Betty graduated from Echo High School and later moved to the Pendleton area.  One day in 1955 she met Herbert Kruse at a restaurant while he was on furlough from Camp Hanford.  They were married three days after his discharge in February 1956 in Echo.  She worked in the Pendleton area until her retirement.

Betty was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women serving in many capacities and always willing to lend a helping hand.  Betty and Herb were also the church custodians for several years during their retirement and took great pride in attending to the needs of the church.

She also volunteered by assisting many organizations in the Pendleton area throughout her life.  She was often at the Helping Hand organizing food boxes that helped many people in the local community.

Betty enjoyed hosting meals for friends and family – often on short notice.  Her pantry was always stocked anticipating those opportunities.  She also enjoyed baking – especially banana bread that was a favorite of many.

Betty and Herb were able to travel during their marriage including annual visits to South Dakota, taking walks on the Oregon coast and cruises to Mexico and Alaska.

Betty is survived by her children: Patty Kruse (Vancouver WA) and Mike Kruse (Tigard OR), four grandchildren and a sister, Lena Lackey, who resides in the Cheney Washington area.  She was preceded in death by Herb, her husband of nearly 59 years, her parents and 7 siblings.

To honor her memory, contributions may be offered to the First United Methodist Church in Pendleton.
