James Lellian Swanson

July 3, 1927 – July 28, 2014

James Lellian Swanson – was born July 3, 1927, in Pendleton, Oregon, a middle brother in the family of seven sons and two daughters of John Raymond and Florence Swanson.  Jim took early graduation from Pendleton High School in 1944 to join the Navy and served in the Pacific until 1948.

After a year at Gonzaga University Jim returned to Pendleton to work in the family business of Swanson Paint & Glass.

He married the beautiful Virginia Officer of Milton-Freewater, Oregon, in 1951 and fathered daughter Julie in 1953 and son Jeff in 1955.

A meticulous and expert painter, he remained in demand long after retirement.

Jim Swanson took deep pride in his family and cherished every friend.  He was a remarkable hunter and gifted fisherman.  Sharply intelligent, he was no fool on current affairs but more importantly valued a good joke.  He was abidingly generous and welcomed all to his front porch.

Jim remained active through the last day of his life, July 27, 2014.  A loving and faithful man, he will be missed for his strong presence in the fabric of life.

He was predeceased by his mother, father and brothers: Robert, Wayne, Jerry and Dean Swanson.  He is survived by his wife of 63 years,  Virginia; daughter Julie Swanson (Darrell Bliss); son Jeffrey Swanson (Carrie Day); beloved grandchildren Jamie Kaesemeyer (Matt) and Jesse Swanson; great grandchildren Jacob and Steven Kaesemeyer; sisters Gloria Kelty and Nancy Doherty and brothers John Swanson and Hubert Swanson; and a large extended family.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 1, 2014, at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton Chapel.  Sign the online condolence book at www.burnsmortuary.com  Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements.
