Alan Joseph Endicott

May 28, 1958 – April 10, 2014

Alan Joseph (AJ) Endicott, age 55, passed away peacefully in his sleep of unknown causes on April 10, 2014.  He was born May 28, 1958 in Waukegan, IL to parents, Alan L. & Nancy Endicott.

We, his sons, are writing his obituary to honor our father’s memory.  He was a man of integrity & many skills, one of which was raising us as a single father, with help from grandpa & grandma over the years.  He was carpenter who insisted on “perfection with every job” and raised us to do the same in everyday life.  Dad was a member of the Pendleton Eagles Lodge and volunteered for many activities there, his favorite being the annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Our dad was raised in Baker City, Oregon, graduating from Baker High School in 1976, where he was an outstanding athlete.  He loved sports, especially baseball and some of his fondest memories are playing high school sports and baseball with the Pendleton Outlaws Team with his many good “40 & Over” friends.  Many of his years were spent teaching us and our friends sports’ fundamentals and coaching our football, basketball and baseball teams.  He was a mentor/father figure to many young men and had just begun helping coach his “special buddy” Buck Weilert’s Little League team, which made him happy and the team will miss him.

Dad was pre-deceased by: his father, grandparents, several cousins and two uncles.  He’s survived by us, Jason, Nic, Christopher (Lacey); his mother; brothers Doug (Sandy) and Tim (Tina); grandchildren Chloe and Karson; nephew Chase (Corrin and children); niece Allison; “adopted” sons, Buck Weilert and Mitch Schneider; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many good friends.

Our dad was a wonderful friend/father/son/brother/uncle and mentor.  We are so thankful for the time we had with him and for the values he instilled in our lives while having fun hunting, fishing, camping, mushrooming, playing sports, or just “hanging out”.  We are missing him so much.  He is gone, but never forgotten by all who knew him.  We love you, Dad.  Rest In Peace!

Celebration of Life is being held on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 3pm at the Pendleton Elks Club with dinner following.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jason or Nic Endicott in care of Burns Mortuary in Pendleton, Oregon, to help pay final expenses.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.burnsmortuary.com

Dear Nancy and family,

Shock and remorse fills our thoughts for only knowing AJ a very short time during youth basketball and most recently baseball. He will be missed. His heart and efforts were in the right place with the Mariners ball team and working with the kids. We know he'll be looking down upon them and you.

May God bless all of you as you transition to life without his smile. We firmly believe you will see him again as he waits for you on the other side.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

We were so shocked and heart broken to hear about Al. He was one of the kindest people we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. We will always be grateful for all the time he spent at the ball park helping our son Reese and watching him play the game they both loved. May he rest in peace. To Al's kids, mom, brothers and his many friends. My heart aches with yours. Me and Al weren't real close until the last few years, starting with the wonderful support he gave me when I lost my dad and his uncle Lyle. We worked together for a while when he came up and stayed with me in the LC valley to help me with some projects. As a carpenter, he was as good as they come, his integrity in his chosen line of work was the best I have ever seen. Mostly what struck me about Al was his love of family and his very large and very good heart. I'm gonna miss my big bro because that is how I have come to think of him. Have a good time up there Al. I know some folks that are overjoyed to see you ! Eric

It was a shock ro read of Al's passing, as a former "Outlaw" it was fun to share the field and the dugout with Al. Never a dull moment......hope he is catching flyballs, throwing runners out, hitting doubles and running fullspeed. All the best to his family. His spirit lives on.

From all of these wonderful writings by family and friends, it's obvious that Little Alan touched many, many lives during his life, which so sadly ended too soon. I have great memories of family get togethers at grandma and grandpa's playing king of the hill on the truck intertubes with all the cousins, hide n seek, and seeing how many times we could run around the house until our sparklers burned out. And lots of campfires at Fish Lake. I'll miss you, Cousin!

It was sept 22nd 1973 I first met AJ at Baker Sr. High, along with "Tex" Wayne Haynes that day I will never forget as we made friends talking about how I came from Clatskanie High the previous school year. Al knew I also came from the Los Angeles area and was critical of my fondness for the LA Lakers. I knew from that day I had a special friend. We graduated together with all are good friends of that era.We played Varisty Baseball that year and many a softball /basketball YMCA pick-up games,as well. Our proudest moment in baseball was the teamate status he, Big Al and I shared being on the Semi-Pro team Baker had the priviledge of having one fine summer . Al and I worked together at the Forest Service after we graduated and I traveled many a trips to Pendleton after he married Kelly Heizer and Jason his first son was born. I remember flying up from San Diego,Ca. to attend his second marriage and reception there in Pendleton. My over the road trucking career aloud me to stop many a days/nights to see Alan and his family. Aj and I went bird hunting quite a few times and even water skiied alot into the 80"s . My Heart aches with the passing of a great friend such as AJ . His Lord has called him home...Love Ya Al...Steve Piersall

Grandma Endicott, Jason, Nic & Chris... I was shocked to read of Al's passing. He was a great friend, whenever I bumped into him he always had a big smile and a hug for me. Always concerned about how I was doing , I reassured him many times I was living one day at a time . I appreciate very very much your friendship, love and all the support you have given me. My heart aches for all of you , my love and prayers are with you all. I will always remember when my Al passed on Grandpa Endicott and Al were there, two good looking men in suits. You raised a very good man Grandma and he did a great job as a single father now it is up to all of young men to continue to live up to his standards and beyond. my love to all of you and God bless.

My path has crossed with the entire Endicott family through the years, both professionally and in friendship. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during your time of loss and sorrow. Al was a familiar face in Meacham as he pursued many building projects including one of my own. I always enjoyed running into all the Endicotts during hunting seasons on and near my property and especially during successful hunts. It's so difficult to lose a son, father, brother and friend, but nothing will ever erase the wonderful memories he left behind.

I played softball with Al in the early 1980's. I then had the pleasure of watching him raise his sons. He was a great dad and a great guy. I lost touch with Al for a little while when he moved to Pendleton, but when I was coaching American Legion Baseball in Baker we reconnected and would play against his 40 and over baseball team. Nobody loved the game more than Al, and he loved the game almost as much as he loved his sons. Al was a good man and I valued his friendship and his honesty.

Brian I admired Alan in many ways. We had the pleasure of his company at the Eagles often and always enjoyed our time with him. He was a good hearted man and we miss him and will ALWAYS miss his company. We look around the Eagles now and he's not there. BUT we just choose to believe he's not here today...perhaps another day....we'll catch him.

You are in our thoughts and prayers.

my condolences to Nic and family. I have known Al for so many years and enjoyed all of them. what a great friend to many but most of all an outstanding father! i can't remember a game or event that Al wasn't there cheering on his sons, especially Baseball. Al always led by example and was a class act. i seen Al at the store often and it didn't matter if it had been days or many weeks since our last visit he always made it a point to take time to visit. He taught his boy's how to be the men they are today. I will miss the conversations and time spent with him but i will always remember the the great times we shared on and off the ball field! Al you will never be forgoten. Rest in peace my friend.
