Patricia W. Hunkapillar

July 12, 1919 – October 31, 2013

 

Patricia W. (Pat) Hunkapillar – a longtime Athena resident passed away Thursday morning, October 31, 2013, at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton.  She was 94 years old.

Pat was born July 12, 1919, to Thomas and Alice (Daugherty) Ward in Portland, Oregon.  She was raised and educated in Beaverton, Oregon, where she graduated from Beaverton High School in 1939.  On January 27, 1946, she married Chester Timmons Hunkapillar in the Beaverton Congregational Church.  The couple made their home in Athena, Oregon, where they raised their four children.  She was a member of the Athena Christian Church.  She enjoyed volunteering her time and had belonged to various organizations over the years, including: the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #130, Athena Home Extension, Athena Study Club, 8/40 Unit #552, the Athena Chamber of Commerce, Umatilla Historical Society, and she helped with the Caledonian Games since their beginning.  She enjoyed spending time with family and friends as well as traveling and touring.

Pat is survived by her children: Bill W. Hunkapillar of Tahoe City, CA; Steve W. Hunkapillar, Pendleton; Taum Sayers, Truckee, CA, and Cyndi Miller, Newport, WA; grandchildren: Brandon J. Lambright of Libby, Montana, Adam Hunkapillar of Kennewick, Washington, Billy F. Lambright of Newport, Washington, and Wesley Miller of Spokane, Washington, as well as ten great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband Chester Hunkapillar, her parents and a brother, Thomas J. Ward.
