Donna Mae Orton

May 1, 1930 – June7, 2013

 

Donna Mae Orton – a lifelong resident of Pendleton passed away Friday evening, June 7, 2013, at a local care home.  She was 83 years old. 

Graveside Inurnment will be held Friday, June 14th, 2013, at 3:00 PM at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton.  Send condolences online at   www.burnsmortuary.com  Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements. 

She was born May 1, 1930 in Pendleton, Oregon, to Donald Joseph and Bessie May (Jones) Arkell.  She was raised in Pendleton where she attended schools and graduated from Pendleton High School with the class of 1948.  On September 11, 1949, she married Donald Rollin Orton in Walla Walla, Washington.  The couple made their home in Pendleton.  Donna worked at Farmer’s Insurance until their first child was born, when she became a homemaker.  She also served as Precinct Chairman on the Election Board for many years.  When her children were in school, Donna always volunteered to help with various school activities.  She also served as Cub Scout Leader.  She later enjoyed volunteering her time at the Community Bargain Counter.  She enjoyed gardening, camping and huckleberry picking. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Donna is survived by her husband Donald at the home in Pendleton, son Brad Orton of Pendleton, daughters Chris Gilmore & husband Pat of Anchorage, AK, and Julie Byers & husband Joe of Pendleton, OR, grandchildren: Tom, Brock and Breann Orton, Kelly and Casey Gilmore and Travis and Traci Hyatt and four great-grandchildren.   

She was preceded in death by her parents Dan & Bess Arkell, her sister Dorothy Patrick and daughter-in-law Brandi Orton.   

The family would like to thank all the staff of Suttle Care & Retirement for their compassion and loving care of Donna in her final days.
