Marla Marie Michael was born on March 21, 1960, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Pendleton, Oregon, to Dennis Duane and Helen Margaret (Kucera) Jobes.  She grew up in Pilot Rock with her parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.  She received her education in the Pilot Rock School District.  Marla was very proud that during her time on the cheerleading squad, they were inducted into the Hall of Fame.  She graduated in 1979, and began working in the grocery business with her dad, Dennis at the Pilot Rock Grocery.  Later she worked as a housekeeper, then did custodial work for the school and was most recently employed at St. Anthony’s Hospital for several years.

Marla married Ben Michael in 1980 and raised their two children, Nicholas James and Shalena Marie in Pilot Rock.  Marla loved being a part of the Michael family and although the marriage ended, the family love remained.  Marla spent the last 14 years with her best friend and companion, Roger Clark and enjoyed the new family that he brought into her life.  Roger’s mother, Janis; son, Colton; daughter, Kaylie and grandchildren, Colton, Shain and Cody.

Marla had a good heart and received pleasure from the simple things in life.  Spending time with family and friends brought her joy, especially her two grandsons, Caden & Teagan Rugg.  Roger & Marla’s home was a gathering place of hospitality, with many memories made sitting around the campfire.  She also loved going for drives in the country with Roger in his Jeep.  The Vinegar Mountain area was her piece of heaven.

Marla is survived by her mother, Helen Jobes - Pilot Rock/Pendleton; son, Nick Michael - Pendleton; daughter, Shalena Michael - Pilot Rock; grandsons, Caden & Teagan Rugg - Pilot Rock; brother, Jim (Nancy) Jobes - Salem, OR; sisters, Valorie (Sonny) Sampson - Pilot Rock; and Belinda (David) Roberts - Tri-Cities, WA; sisters-in-law, Jana Whitten, Lori Jobes and Janet Koch - Pendleton; father and mother-in-law, Jim and Pat Michael - Pilot Rock; brothers-in-law, Don (Mary) Michael - Pendleton, Tom (Leslie) Michael - Puyallup, WA, John (Karlene) Michael - Boise, ID, Stanley (Lynnea) Stanhope - Pendleton; and many nieces and nephews.

Marla was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Jobes; brothers, Ron Jobes and Dean Jobes; and nephew, Travis Sampson.

A Private Family Memorial will be held Friday, May 10th at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton at 3:30 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life Potluck Luncheon for family and friends on Saturday, May 11th at 1:00 PM at the Pendleton Eagles Lodge. There are many memories that I have containing adventures with Marla and all of them make me smile and remember the bright outlook she always had. Even though some times were tough, she was always the positive one. So, remember when you look up at night and see all the beautiful stars, Marla's is the new bright and shiny one.

Our condolences to the Jobes & Michael family.
