Patricia Elizabeth (Bonum) Reed was born August 28, 1928, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Walter Worth and Opal (Turner) Bonum.  She died Monday, March 25th, 2013, in Pendleton, Oregon, at the age of 84.

Pat was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina.  She attended Derita High School with her beloved sister, Mary Worth McKain.  These two sisters were inseparable and happened to be playing on Carolina Beach where Pat met her future husband Walter (Sonny) Reed.  They were married in Charlotte in 1946.  Their first son, Watler Worth Reed was born there in 1948, and following his birth the trio moved west to Pendleton, Oregon, in 1949.  This move to Eastern Oregon would be quite a change of scenery for Patricia, but she adapted to her new environment and she considered it her home.

After her move to Pendleton, her second son, Frank Lynn Reed was born in 1952.  Patricia spent the rest of her life in Pendleton, where she was a homemaker and always devoted to her family.  She could always be counted on to remember finite details about family members and all the intricacies of her family’s genealogy.  Pat was an avid church member of various congregations throughout her life, the most recent being the Berean Baptist Church.

Pat assisted at the Senior Center located on the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.  This was a place she dearly enjoyed spending time with friends and socializing on a daily basis.  Patricia enjoyed visiting her family in North Carolina and would travel there many times throughout her life.  This enabled her to maintain a special relationship with her sister, Mary Worth McKain.  Pat loved her cats and listening to Big Band music and Frank Sinatra.  Most of all she loved her family, and held her daughter-in-law La Belva Reed in the highest regard, thinking of her as the daughter she never had.  Patricia was very proud of her granddaughters’ accomplishments and she spent many hours with them during their childhood.

Patricia is survived by her two sons, Walter Worth Reed and Frank Lynn Reed, both of Pendleton, Oregon, sister Mary Worth McKain of Charlotte, North Carolina, granddaughters Brilynn Reed of Pendleton, Oregon, and Nicole Reed of Raton, New Mexico, daughters-in-law La Belva Reed of Pendleton, and Lois Reed of Adams, Oregon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sonny Reed in 1993, and her parents Walter Worth and Opal Bonum.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, March 28, 2013, at 10:00 AM in the Burns Mortuary of Pendleton Chapel, with interment to follow at Skyview Memorial Park in Pendleton, Oregon.  After the service, a luncheon will be held at the Senior Center of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.
