Dale Gressman died Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the age of 84.  He was born in Stockton, Utah, in 1928, and was the 6th child of Melvin and Alba Gressman.

At 17 he joined the Army.  The end of World War II saw him entering a new phase of his life.  He went to work for his brother Gerald’s mining company in Idaho. Brother Gerald sent him to work in Death Valley, CA, where he met his sweetheart Carolynn and they married in 1953.  In 1955 their first son Dale Jr was born and in 1957 son Max completed their family.

In 1960 he moved the family to California and went to work for Pittsburg Glass in Lone Pine.  In 1969 he went to work for Cal Portland Cement in Mojave.  He was very involved with the boys’ sports, organizing and coaching.

Due to a back injury in 79 he retired.  Carolynn received a promotion to Post Master in Summerland and the two of them moved to Carpinteria.  While there he served as President of the Santa Barbara Lions  Club and was active in the Elks.

He and wife Carolynn were avid campers and loved their weekend excursions.  They worked tirelessly raising money and collecting glasses to be donated to the Lions Club.

When Carolynn retired they moved to Bakersfield He started out as a member of a friends pit crew and at 70 years old he began racing his own car in the Hobby Stock category.

In 2004 they moved to Pendleton where he cared for his ailing wife until she passed away in 2008. Earlier this year he moved to Sunridge where he lived until his death.  Dale is preceded in death by his wife Carolynn, his parents and 9 siblings.  He is survived by sons Dale of Pendleton and Max of Bakersfield, CA, grandchildren Andrea and Dale of Pendleton, Lacey of Germany, and Cortnie of Bakersfield, California as well as brother Don Gressman of Palm Desert, California.

Dale was a very dear friend who we first met as neighbors in Bakersfield, CA. He became George's pit crew at the Bakersfield Speedway and at 70 got a chance to drive his own car. The expression on his face was that of a child seeing Santa putting presents under the tree.
WE will always have fond memories of both Dale and Carolyn. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
