Herman W. Schuening, a lifelong resident of Pendleton, died Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at his home in Pendleton.  He was 87 years old.

At his request, no services will be held.  Memorial contributions in his memory may be sent to the charity Pendleton Animal Welfare Shelter “PAWS” in Pendleton, and may be sent care of the Burns Mortuary of Pendleton, P.O. Mr. Schuening was born June 16, 1925 In Pendleton.  He was the son of Herman and Freda (Schnoor) Schuening.  He was raised and educated in Pendleton and graduated from Pendleton High School with the class of 1944.  In 1947 He went to work for the Umatilla County Road Department where he worked as a Foreman on bridges in our area.  He continued working for the County until his retirement in 1987. He married Joyce Strasser on June 15, 1952 in Pendleton.  Mrs. Schuening preceded him in death in 2011. 

Mr. Schuening had been an active member of Pendleton community.   He had been a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #28 in Pendleton. He had volunteered for the Pendleton Round-Up for over 35 years, and was the Round-Up Grounds Director from 1988-1989.  He was a past member of the First Baptist Church of Pendleton.   He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, yard work and gardening, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by a son, Dave Schuening and wife, Terry of Pendleton, a daughter, Marilyn Schuening of Pendleton, and a grandson, Chris Schuening of Pendleton.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joyce, and two brothers, Bob and Fred Schuening.

I'm so sorry for your loss. So sorry this is late but we were out of town. At least he is at peace and no longer in pain.
