Gregory M. "Greg" Thompson – a lifelong resident of Pendleton passed away on Friday, June 8th, 2012 at his home. He was 56 years old. Viewing will be held Wednesday, June 13th, 2012, from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Burns Mortuary in Pendleton. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Wednesday June 13th at 3:00 P.M. at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton, with a potluck gathering to follow at Grecian Heights Park North. Contributions in memory of Greg may be made to the Umatilla County Historical Society or to the Pendleton Foundation Trust and may be sent care of Burns Mortuary of Pendleton, PO Box 489, Pendleton, OR 97801. He graduated from Pendleton High School with the class of 1975. In his twenties he enjoyed racing motorcycles and jeeps. He always loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially enjoyed bird hunting and training his dogs. He enjoyed shooting trap in Pilot Rock and for the last 10 years was a competitive pistol and three gun shooter. He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the National Wild Turkey Federation and the National Rifle Association. He has two children from a previous marriage that he raised almost solely by himself. Greg was self-employed most of his life in the landscape maintenance industry and enjoyed working with his many longtime clients. Greg is survived by his daughter Michelle Rogers & husband Preston, son James Thompson & wife Jennifer, three grandchildren: Aidan and Bailee Rogers and Tanner Thompson, and his brother Bob Thompson. He is also survived by his longtime girlfriend and companion Stephanie Wegner. He was preceded in death by his parents Sidney and Dorothy Thompson.

My heartfelt condolences to Gregs children James and Michelle. You were the light of his life. And to Gregs brother Bob and his family. It was a wonderful service. Greg was loved by many and he will be deeply missed.

Greg was a grade school classmate. My parents were long time clients of his. They could always count on him to show up unannounced to shovel their walkways after it snowed. He will be missed by many. He was a good man. My sympathy to his family.
