Laurence "Larry" Carey, a longtime resident of Pendleton, died Friday, April 29, 2011 in a local care facility. He was 82 years old. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Monday, May 2, 2011, at 7:00 P.M. in the Burns Mortuary of Pendleton. Family and friends are invited to an Irish Wake that will follow the Rosary at 8:00 P.M. and will be held in The Prodigal Son Brewery here in Pendleton. A private family remembrance service will be held at a later date. Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is inn charge of arrangements. Mr. Carey was born March 27, 1929 in Dumfries, Ireland. He was the son of Thomas and Mary Bradley Carey. He was raised and educated in Ireland. In February of 1957 he came to Pendleton, Oregon. He had worked for a time in Hermiston where he worked at Rohrman Ford. He Married Nancy on November 27, 1961. He later worked for the St. Anthony Hospital as well as the Blue Mountain Community College here in Pendleton. He was also a landlord, and had owned several rental properties in the area. He retired in the late 1990s. Mrs. Carey preceded him in death in July of 1990. He greatly enjoyed working with his rental properties and spending time with his family. He had been a member of the Pendleton Elks Lodge as well as a past member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pendleton. He is survived by; Son Tom Carey and his wife Janice of Pendleton, Daughters Kathleen Kaufman and husband Gerry, and Mary Wilson and husband Tom, all of Squim, Washington and daughter, Susan Ottosen a husband Aaron of Pendleton. One Brother, John Carey of London, England, two sisters, Katie Stafford of Anthram, Ireland and Dolores McLaughlin of Buncrana, Ireland. Seven grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and his wife, Nancy, who died in 1989.

Tommy and Family ..we are all deeply saddened for our loss.Tearful as it may well be I am raising a glass to my Uncle Laurence who always has a smile and kind word for all of us.... He was my Dads hero..... love, kind wishes and our thoughts continue to be with you all, John, Serena ,Michael and Luke.

I enjoyed every minute with Laurence. He was the best of people and will be greatly missed.

So sorry to hear that Larry has passed away. We both worked at BMCC during the same time but in different departments. Whenever I ran into him, he always appeared happy, full of mischief and was a fun person to be around. He'll be missed.
