Joseph Raymond Smith – a Pendleton resident passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at his home. He was 67 years old. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at St. Andrew's Catholic Mission, Mission, Oregon. Clark and Alice Forst. At the age of 18, Joseph enlisted into the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1962. After his Discharge from the Army, Joseph came to Oregon, where he had resided since. Once in Oregon he began working for an auto wrecking service and towing company with Lynn Allquist, where he helped manage the business. Joseph then began his career as a residential and commercial roofer in the construction industry. He had been a roofer for most of his career, and retired in 2002. Mr. Smith had been an active member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church for 20+ years. After his retirement, Joseph dedicated his time to St. Andrew's Church as the church handyman, grounds keeper and maintenance man. Joseph was a loving father and grandfather. He was also a loving companion. He loved to tinker and work on cars, though his true passion was hunting. He loved being in the woods hunting with his nephew Keith and his son Billy Joe. Joseph is survived by his longtime companion Charlene Topping of Pendleton, OR, son Billy Joe of Portland, OR, his daughters: Stephanie of Portland, OR, and Emmy of Hermiston, OR, brother Ken of Salem, OR, and sister Dottie of Salem, OR, his nephew Keith of The Dalles, OR, and 6 grandchildren.

I'am going to miss Joe, with his quick wit, and friendly personality. He truly was a hard worker, and was appreciated for his quality of work.
