John H. Landers - a resident of Pendleton, died Saturday, August 21, 2010 in a Pendleton care facility. He was 76 years old. At his request, no services will be held. He was the son of Homer and Esther Caudy Landers. He was raised and educated in Portland and attended Grant High School. After his schooling he served his country in the United States Air force during the Korean War where he served two tours of duty. He married Helen Walters in 1960 in Burns, Oregon, and that marriage later ended. He married Martha J. Jones on February 13, 1972 in West Richland, Washington. He received his associate's degree in Air Transportation Technology in 1971 from Blue Mountain Community College, and went to work at the Pendleton Airport as an Air Traffic Control Trainee. Later President Nixon froze the age for government hiring, and John was considered to old to work for the government and pursue his career as an air traffic controller. He then had worked as a two-way radio installer in the Clarkston, Washington area. And then as a Wireline Operator in the Swanson River Oil Fields and the Beluga Island Gas Field on the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska. In l978 the family returned to Pendleton where he worked for the Pendleton Grain Growers for a time. He then worked for the East Oregon Support Services E.O.S.S. Food Transport and then later transferred to the commissary as a Clerical Specialist where he later retired. He had been the Past Worthy President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, # 28 in Pendleton as well as past secretary. He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, working as a shade tree mechanic and just puttering around his shop. He is survived by his wife, Martha Landers of Pendleton, two sons; Raymond Landers of Portland, OR, and Jeremy Landers of Keizer, OR, five daughters; Irene Tallan of Monmouth, OR, Cyrene Dickenson of Redmond, OR, Melodi DeBorger of Ethel, WA, Marla Campbell of Pendleton, OR, and Jenny Valencia of Vancouver, WA, one brother, Thomas Landers of California, eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family. Although he is not here with us, John is Home with God. That is something to be happy about. No more pain, suffering, etc.
