Marian Ellen Gray – a former Pendleton resident died June 25, 2010 in Santa Cruz, CA. She was 95 years old. Viewing will be held at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton on Thursday, July 8, 2010 from 9:30-10:00 AM. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday July, 8, 2010 at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton. Marian Ellen Draper was born on August 30, 1914, in Pendleton, and was the first of three children born to Ernest and Ellen Draper. Marian graduated from high school in Seattle, WA, after which she and her family moved to LaGrande, OR. She attended Draper Business School in LaGrande where she met her future husband, Don. They were married on June 9, 1937, and moved to Pendleton. In 1952 they established Don Gray Office Services in Pendleton. They later moved to Milton-Freewater where Mr. Gray became branch manager of the First Federal Savings and Loan facility. In 1967 his work moved them to Hermiston and Marian worked as secretary at First Christian Church. She was subsequently employed by the Hermiston School District where she served as office secretary at the Junior High School until her retirement in 1976. The couple moved to Santa Cruz, CA, in 1983 so they could be closer to their children. She was a lifelong member of the Christian Church Disciples of Christ and was active in congregations in Pendleton, OR, Milton-Freewater, OR, Hermiston, OR and Santa Cruz, CA. She is survived by two daughters: Sandra Jones Jim of San Jose, CA and Janet Johnson Darrell of Soquel, CA. She is also survived by four granddaughters: Debbie Clayton, Lyn Bratton, Lisa McLean and Diana Harris; and six great grandchildren. Marian was predeceased by her husband, Don Gray, grandson, Don Johnson, parents, Ernest and Ellen Draper and siblings, Sarah Straughan and Ed Draper.
