Mark R. Seltmann “Mayor” 58, a resident of Athena, Oregon passed away on August 24, 2017 in Spokane, Washington. He was born on August 20, 1959 in Portland, Oregon to John W. Seltmann and Mildred J Morrison. He was raised and attended school in Vancouver, Washington. He graduated in 1977 from Ft. Vancouver High School. He later moved to Athena, OR.

He married Kathryn J. Quaempts in August of 1987. They later divorced. He married Kimberly Melton on August 26, 2011.

He was a Sales and Lease Consultant for McCurley Integrity Toyota of Walla Walla. He was the former Mayor of Athena from January 1995 to January 2006.

On January 12, 2016 he received from Wildhorse Lodge #65 the Hiram Award for Dedicated Service. Throughout his lifetime, he had received many other awards and recognitions.

He was very active in the Athena Community. He loved to garden and loved his roses. He also didn’t mind yard work. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Athena Fire Department.

He was Vice President of Athena Caledonian Games. He was a member of Athena Main Street Association. He was Vice Chairman of Sunset Housing, a member of Milton Freewater Masonic Lodge, Al Kader Shriners. From 1999-2000 he was on the Board of Directors of Oregon Mayor’s Association. In August 2002 he received the Mayor Leadership Award for Small City. In 2001, 2002 and 2003 he was on the Board of Directors for League of Oregon Cities.

He is survived by his wife Kimberly Seltmann in Athena, Oregon; sons Nicholas Seltmann, Walla Walla Washington, Benjamin Seltmann, Walla Walla, Washington; daughters Holly Messee (spouse Jeff ), Spokane, Washington, Amanda Melton, Walla Walla, Washington, sister Debi Seltmann, Vancouver Washington, brother Wes Seltmann (spouse Rebecca), Olympia, Washington; 4 grandchildren and 2 Bassett Hounds; Abigail and Otto.

He was predeceased by his parents John and Joan Seltmann and son Christopher J Quaempts.

There will be a Celebration of Life with Masonic Lodge Wildhorse #65 on September 9, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Weston McEwen High School Gym in Athena, Or 97813.
