Virgil Hendricks, age 88, peacefully passed at home at 3 p.m. on August 3 surrounded by family.

He was born in Mt. Vernon, Missouri, on October 27, 1928, the youngest of three children born to Hassel and Mable Hendricks.

Virgil was first introduced to Delores Jacobson, his future wife, at the Ozark Academy in Gentry, Arkansas, in 1949. Later that year he moved to Pendleton. Delores moved to Pendleton with her parents in 1950 and reconnected with Virgil. On May 25, 1951, while on a vacation with friends and family, they stopped at the Bentonville, Arkansas, courthouse where Virgil proposed marriage. When Delores said yes, they walked across the street to the Justice of the Peace and tied the knot. They were happily married for 66 years.

Virgil had a 27-year career with the city of Pendleton and retired as the airport superintendent. After retirement, he and Delores spent time working on their rental properties, enjoying time at their vacation home in Shell Knob, Missouri, and taking in music and fun in Branson. He also enjoyed traveling, outdoor activities, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Delores Hendricks; daughter Vickie Hendricks, Pendleton, Oregon; son Virgil Hendricks, Jr. and wife Helen, Prineville, Oregon; grandson Andrew Hendricks and wife Lesley; and several nieces and nephews.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, brother Franklin Hendricks, and sister Ida Laura Hanson.

Per his request, no services are planned.
