Music by The Piano Brothers

Olive Detweiler, 92, passed away on December 20, 2016.  She was born on July 31, 1924, to Jesse and Myrtle Spellman in Yuma County, Colorado.  She attended school in a one room schoolhouse for grades one through eight. Being the third born of four daughters, she was raised during the depression and dust bowl days when they farmed with horses. Having no brothers, she was the one that helped her father with the outside work.

In 1941, when Olive was 17 years old, her family moved to Wilder, Idaho. The following year she married Leonard Perryman.   They had three children:  two sons, Gerald and Terry, and one daughter, Sandra. They moved to Madras, Oregon, in 1952 where they lived for three years before moving to Quincy, Washington.   The family moved to Pendleton, Oregon, in 1961.  They were divorced in 1969.

She married the love of her life, Bill Detweiler, in 1970, and they made their home together in Pendleton. They loved traveling together and spending their time on the Fourth of July wagon train. Olive spent 19 years working at the Pendleton Woolen Mills as a dresser.

Olive found so much joy in watching her family grow. She made a point to attend sporting events for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of the Let’er Buck 922 post with the VFW, which included being a driving member for cancer fundraising.   She was a member of the Free Methodist Church.  In her spare time she enjoyed quilting and traveling.

Olive loved her family so much.  To her it didn’t matter if you were a friend of one of her children, grandchildren, or a “step,” you were her family.

Olive is survived by her son Terry Perryman (Evelyn) of Caldwell, Idaho; daughter Sandra Morris (Sonny) of Pendleton, Oregon; daughter-in-law Pam Perryman of Yakima, Washington; sisters Marilynn Roper (Alan) and Lois Hall both of Caldwell, Idaho; son Bill Detweiler (Connie) of Mountain Home, Idaho; daughter Benita Handford (Carl) of Big Timber, Montana; grandsons Erik Perryman (Britt) of Moscow, Idaho; Kelly Perryman (Jayme) of Boise, Idaho; Kyle Bryant (Amica) of Pendleton, Oregon; granddaughters Christin Barnes (Keith) of Stansbury Park, Utah; Lisa Alexander of Florida; additional grandchildren David, Mindy, Adam, Tabitha, Cassandra, Alan, Bobby, Jaime, Zach, Mitch, Matthew, Michael & Marcus, along with many great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Myrtle Spellman, sister Ruby Knight, son-in-law Grant Gee in 2001, husband Bill Detweiler in 2006, eldest son Gerald Perryman in 2008, son Robert Detweiler in 2016, and granddaughter Mary Summers in 2016.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the VFW Post 922, in memory of Olive Detweiler.
