Donald Ray Campbell

November 4, 1934 – May 12, 2016

Donald R. Campbell – a resident of Mission passed away Thursday morning, May 12, 2016, at his home.  He was 81 years old. 

Donald was born in Pendleton, Oregon, to Orville O. and Marie E. (Picard) Campbell, November 4, 1934.  Donald graduated from Pendleton High School.  Donald served in the US Navy from July 25, 1952 to October 21, 1955.  He was a longtime member of the Pendleton Eagles Aerie # 28.

Donald married the love of his life Helen G. Erickson, April 11, 1953.  They have three surviving children, Michael Ray of Lebanon, Oregon; Tina Marie of Weston, Oregon; and Pamela Joyce of Adams, Oregon.

Don worked at many different jobs in his lifetime; Maycomber Painting, Umatilla County Shops.  Loving the sea and fishing, Don moved the family with in-laws to Newport, Oregon in 1964 pursuing commercial fishing.  After a few unsuccessful years of fishing, in 1975 Don moved the family back to what he called ‘God’s country’, his previous home, Pendleton, Oregon.  Don worked in construction, heavy equipment and driving truck until an on the job injury.  Don went back to school at BMCC to earn a degree in civil engineering.  With his degree Don worked for CTUIR and private consulting until retirement.

Don always enjoyed friend and family card games.  Don rode horses all his life and always enjoyed rodeos, playdays and especially team roping.

He is blessed with two grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.  We love and miss him very much.

Memorial services will be held at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton Chapel on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life following at 2:30 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #28 in Pendleton.  Sign the online condolence book at www.burnsmortuary.com.  Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice, or to the American Cancer Society.  The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the caring doctors and staff during his battle with Esophageal Cancer and special thank you to the staff of St. Anthony Hospice of Pendleton, Oregon.
