Couch was born on July 21, 1927 in Othello, Washington, to Irwin and Lottie Hassleberg Couch, and for the first 17 years of his life he enjoyed life on a horse ranch in Stanfield, Oregon, with his 3 brothers and 3 sisters. In 1944 Don relocated to Pendleton, Oregon, where he resided for many years at Eastern Oregon Training Center. In 2009 Don moved to a foster home in Pendleton where he remained for the rest of his life. When Don lived on the family ranch he had a mule that he enjoyed saddling up and riding whenever the urge struck him, after moving to Pendleton, don missed the freedom of riding. Fortunately, in his later years he was able to once again enjoy the freedom of riding a horse at a structured riding facility outside of Pendleton. Don also enjoyed going to the Pendleton Round-Up every year and participating in the activities that accompany the Round-Up, as well as watching old western movies in his spare time. During Don's lifetime he had lost contact with most of his family members, however he was lucky enough to reunite with his younger brother Delbert and sister-in-law Sally Couch in 2006. Spending time with them brought great joy to Don. One of the happiest times in Don's life was in March of 2011, when he was introduced to many nieces and nephews, as well as other family friends. Don was at home in Pendleton, Oregon, on February 17, 2012 when he left this world and joined his loved ones waiting for him in heaven. Don is survived by one sister, Betty Couch Ockuly of Arizona, many nieces and nephews, as well as a large extended family of friends. Don will be especially missed by his close friends Sandra Doherty and Sandi Cochran. Don was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wayne, Junior and Delbert, and sisters Luella and Ethel.
